Sense of Safety, an international art project centered at the YermilovCentre for Contemporary Art in Kharkiv, will run from 29 August to 17 November 2024. More than 30 artists from more than 10 countries will take part in it. The project consists of an exhibition of the same name at the Yermilov Centre and a series of inter-institutional events called Bridges of Solidarity in 12 partner countries. The project emerged in response to the horrific situation in Kharkiv, a city 50 kilometres from the Russian border that is undergoing daily shelling. The authors reflect on the ambivalence of the concept of security, how its perception differs depending on the optics and context of a person’s stay.
