Based on a map of former uranium mining areas in Saxony and Thuringia, the film Sonne Unter Tage (Sun Underground) embarks on a dizzying journey through time, beneath the earth, above the earth and into space. In doing so, it traces the sedimented narratives that surround the element uranium materially, geopolitically and metaphorically. ‘How can the spectrum of the visible be shifted to bring its invisible radiation into view, to make it audible or tangible?’ (German with English subtitles)
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with director Mareike Bernien and political scientist Dr Jakob Kullik (Chemnitz University of Technology) on the topics covered in the film. Moderated by Elza Gubanova & Leon Seidel.
