In the 1970s, Iranian Zahra is studying medicine at the University of Bucharest. There she forms a deep friendship with her fellow student Maria. When the Iranian revolution overthrows the Shah in 1979, Zahra returnes to her country in the hope of political change. She and Maria continue to write each other letters.
